About French Campaign Beds
When on campaign, Napoleon moved as quickly as his soldiers, sleeping exclusively on collapsible, easily transportable beds. He commissioned his first bed for military campaigns in 1808. The one featured here dates to the mid-19th century likely during Napoleon III's reign (1852-70), nephew and heir to Napoleon I, and was used by military officers in the field.
