19th century Grecian antique couch. This is a neo-classical Grecian antique couch from eastern Ontario. Grecian sofas are distinguished in having only a partial back, indicating that they were designed primarily for reclining rather than sitting (also referred to as fainting couches). This example has a button tufted back panel, is upholstered in royal blue plush velvet, and is trimmed in wood. The back is in solid wood. It sits on 4 stout turned legs with metal casters. It's an elegant example of early Canadian furniture from the 19th century. The current upholstery is modern.
